United States of Tara "Pilot" Review

Showtime has been pushing the envelope with groundbreaking original series trying to compete with HBO. With Showtime's;"Weeds," "Californication," and "Dexter," all proving to be successful escapes from reality, "United States of Tara" proves to be no different. The show stars Toni Collette playing a mom with multiple personalities. In the pilot, you get to meet three of these personalities including "T" a teenage version of Tara that wears revealing outfits and smokes marijuana. Buck is perhaps the farthest stretch for Toni Collette playing a foul-mouthed trucker that defends her teenage daughter and acts homophobic towards her son's cooking habits.  The characters all compliment each other very well and you kind of want to see them more than the normal Tara. The show is very good in explaining the situation of how her family gets along with their mother's state of mind. John Corbett plays her understanding husband. Toni Collette will without a doubt be in the running for the Emmy for Lead Actress in a Comedy come September. I think "Tara" will grow in the weeks to come and be as successful as "Weeds." The show is written by Diablo Cody who scribed "Juno," and produced by Steven Spielberg. The show looks to be another home run for Showtime.
