Box Office Analysis
Star Trek opened above expectations over the weekend. J.J. Abrams new take on the "old" classic proved to be a great move for himself and the studio. The film explored the origins on Capt. Kirk and Spock in the vein of "Batman Begins" and "Casino Royale."
Star Trek grossed $75.2 million dollars over the weekend on 3,800 screens. Although it didn't match "Wolverine's" $85 Million opening, it will surely surpass it in the long run. Star Trek earned a rotten tomatoes score of 95% fresh while Wolverine came in at 36 % rotten. Wolverine dropped off 69% in just it's second weekend for $26.4 million. Next week brings on the new Tom Hanks/Ron Howard collaboration "Angels and Demons." I believe Star Trek will remain on top of the charts because of the fantastic word-of-mouth that it's receiving. Here's the top 10 for May8-May10.
1. Star Trek $75.2 Million
2. Wolverine $26.4 Million
3. Ghost of Girlfriends Past $10.25Million
4. Obsessed $6.5 Million
